What is Mass Communication? I used to question the same thing before I continue my studies. Choosing the right course for you is a really big deal as it is related to your future and of course, you don't want to mess it up!

So, without further or do let's clear up the questions you might have in your head and let me explain to you thoroughly, Mass Communication is a course where you will learn the study of different ways of relaying information to the public through mass media. Basically, if you love to be in the entertainment industry and have the urge to create one or be one of the people behind the scenes then you are very welcome to choose Mass Communication as the course you want to continue. For Diploma in Communication and Media studies, you will learn all the basics of Journalism, Broadcasting, Publishing, Public Relations, Advertising, New Media Communication, Instructional Communication & Training, Interpersonal Communication, and Communication Management & Policy before you choose any of them as your major for Degree.

For Mara University of Technology (UiTM), Malaysia, there are only two campuses that offered you to continue Diploma in Communication and Media studies, which are located in Rembau, Negeri Sembilan, and Alor Gajah, Melaka. After going through the interview I was given to pursue in campus Alor Gajah, Melaka which is great because it is only 30 minutes away from my house and now I am currently in my 5th semester which is also my last semester for my diploma.

Do I enjoy learning Mass Communication?

Yes, I do, I loved every bit of what I have learned and experienced. Besides getting to sharpen my communication skills, I was able to survive through all the semesters by having very supportive classmates that have been with me for the past four semesters. I simply could not wish for more, they are blessings to me as they are very helpful and always got each other's back. Sadly, we were only able to experience physical classes and communication for only one semester. Since the pandemic, we have been communicating and completing our assessments online, virtually. This also is not a big deal for Mass Communication students, because all of the subjects can be learned virtually. It was hard in the beginning since there are no physical interactions which means you have to work a little bit hard to understand certain topics. However, with the help of lecturers and my classmates, it all went smoothly.

If you still are uncertain whether you should continue in Mass Communication then ask yourself, what do you want to do in the next 10-20 years? if you see yourself in the creative industry or in the entertainment industry creating wonderful content for the people through mass media. Then, what are you waiting for? the answer has always been in your head, you only need a little push and courage to see it. For me, personally, having fun while learning is a must. So, after 2 years of continuing in Mass Communication, I can say that there is not a single day that I regret choosing Mass Communication as my first choice. It is truly a wonderful journey.

Thank you so much for reading!
