On 21st October 2021, the Malaysian-made Netflix Original, Sa Balik Baju has become a hot topic among the youth of Malaysia across all over social media platforms. Due to this, I have decided to see what is the hype about.

Sa Balik Baju is a movie produced by Red Communications, directed and written by four amazing women, Junad Nor, Sarah Lois, Umie Omar, and Afiza Asram. The movie is about six women going through social media, work, and relationship crises. Each of them has their own different stories. Based on the movie, the first story is about Dahlia (Nadiya Nisaa) who lost her job. She then got inspiration on starting her own brand of lingerie, and the journey of her business starts.

Will Dahlia succeed with her lingerie brand?

Moving on to the second story. Hannah (Elena Moujing) is a young university student that is very into a digital dating app, "Love Clicks". Because of this, it leads her to match with a mysterious guy that share the same humor as her. But the issue here is that she does not know how the guy looks as they are only able to chat with each other using the avatar that's available on the app.

Will Hannah succeed in meeting the love of her life?

The third story, starring Juliana Evans as Myra. Myra is a married woman that is expecting her first child. Myra is also a full-time beauty blogger that is managed by her husband, Irfan (Aliff Satar). However, due to her pregnancy, Myra has this imbalance hormone which leads to her being disgusted by cosmetics. This has become a big deal since she is a beauty blogger that should love and appreciate makeup by all means. What is worse is that her clients have given her a warning since her engagements on social media have dropped.

Will Myra be able to face the obstacle and be back on track?

The fourth story is about Sierra (Sarancak) who have a huge following on social media platform as she loves to post about her love life with her husband, Hanif (Idris Khan), and gives people advice on how to maintain a healthy relationship. The crisis happened when one of her followers found Hanif's account on a dating app, "Hunny Bunny" then continue to spread the news on social media making which lead to people harassing Siera online. Sierra's journey to find the truth starts.

Will Sierra be able to find the truth behind her husband's online dating account?

The fifth story starred the amazing Mira Filzah as Aria. Aria is a working woman and has a bigger desire in working rather than marrying someone. However, her father does not agree with Aria working and wants Aria to be married instead of working. Her father believes that a woman should not work hard because, in the end, she will only be an accessory to her husband.

Will Aria be able to handle this issue with her father?

The last story tells me about Salina (Kaka Azraff) who is always concerned and embarrassed about her breast size. She feels more embarrassed when the guys in her workplace have spread her picture on social media. Due to this, she has decided to go back to her hometown. When she was heading to her hometown, she met a woman who sit beside her on the bus named Sally (Joanne Kam), an extroverted and friendly person. The meeting of them both has changed Salina's perspective on her own life.

Will Salina be able to accept her body?

All these five stories have their own message that they want to deliver to the audience and from me personally, I think they portray it very well in a very easy-to-understand way. I really recommend people to see this movie as it can change your view on certain things that will help you to see these issues better. All the actresses and actors did a great job, they all immersed themselves well in their characters making us feel related. After seeing this movie, as a guy myself, this movie had changed my perspectives in viewing these related issues and I can proudly say that this movie portrays female empowerment in a way that would inspire all generations of women. You should give it a watch!

Thank you so much for reading!
